Where do you want to go from here?

This course is for women rebuilding their working lives after a difficult or controlling relationship.

You might be building a business, looking for a new career or rebuilding one you had to put aside. You might already be working and want to progress, earn more or do something different.

We’ll use examples for both business and employment throughout. You don’t need a business idea to join, and you don’t need to have your career plans worked out. You won’t be asked to tell the group what happened in your relationship.

The five classes

Natalie teaches each class through Zoom and the Facebook group. You’ll have something small to try afterwards, with space to work it through in your workbook.

Class 01

What do you want from work now?

If you’re changing or rebuilding your career, we’ll look at the roles, income and working arrangements you want. If you’re building a business, we’ll look at your idea, who it could help and how it could fit around your life. For both, we’ll consider the time, money and support you need.

Use the checklist to choose one career goal or one business idea to work on during the classes.

Class 02

What skills can you build on?

For your career, we’ll find examples of your skills to use in a CV, application or interview, including experience outside paid work. For your business, we’ll look at how those skills could help a customer and why someone might pay for what you offer.

Write down one example of a skill you could bring to an employer or use to solve a customer’s problem.

Class 03

How do you talk about what you offer?

If you’re focusing on your career, you’ll draft a short introduction for your CV or a conversation with an employer. If you’re building a business, you’ll describe what you offer, who it’s for and how it helps. We’ll work through examples of both together.

Read your career introduction or business description aloud and change anything you wouldn’t normally say.

Class 04

What do you need to say?

For your career, we’ll practise conversations such as explaining a career break, asking about a role or discussing working hours. For your business, we’ll practise explaining your price, agreeing what’s included and setting a boundary with a client. You’ll use the scripts sheet to prepare a conversation that matters to you.

Adapt one script for an employer or a client and practise it privately. You don’t have to contact anyone during the class.

Class 05

What will you do this month?

You’ll bring your work together into a 30-day plan. For your career, that might mean researching roles, preparing an application or arranging a professional conversation. For your business, it might mean speaking to potential customers, testing your idea or preparing an offer. The final group Q&A covers questions about putting either pathway into practice.

Choose your first career or business action, put it in your calendar and set a date to check how you’re getting on.

What you get

All five classes are free, including the materials below. You’ll use them to work through your ideas, prepare for conversations and decide what to do next in your business or career.

  • A workbook to build your plan. Bring together your skills, ideas and next steps in one place. By the final class, you’ll have worked on a 30-day plan for your business or career, with actions that fit the time you have.
  • A checklist to help you choose where to start. Look at what needs attention now: your direction, income, confidence in talking about your work or boundaries. Use it to choose a priority instead of trying to tackle everything at once.
  • Words to help with difficult conversations. Adapt the scripts to explain a career gap, introduce yourself to an employer, describe your business or tell a client what’s included. Make the wording your own and practise before you need it.
  • One manageable step between classes. Gather an example of your skills, draft your introduction or prepare a conversation with an employer or customer. Each task contributes to the work you’ll bring together at the end.
  • Time to ask Natalie your questions. The final class includes a group Q&A about applying the teaching to your business or career. Bring the questions that came up as you worked through the exercises.

The workbook and sheets will be shared in the class Facebook group, along with the joining information.

A few things you might be wondering

Will I have to buy anything?

No. The classes and materials are free. Natalie will explain the paid programme during the course, but joining it is entirely your choice.

Will you look at my CV or business idea individually?

You can ask questions about the teaching in the final group Q&A. Individual work reviews and private coaching are included in the paid programme.

Do I need Zoom and Facebook?

Yes. You’ll access the classes through Zoom and the Facebook group. The group is also where you’ll find your workbook and sheets.

Do I have to talk about my relationship?

No. You can focus on work and keep your exercises to yourself. Other members can see anything you choose to post in the group.

When are the classes? Can I watch a recording?

Classes run on Monday mornings at 9am GMT (UTC+0). We’re confirming the first Monday, session length and recording arrangements. Check the GMT time against your local timezone before joining.
